The Tomari International Cemetery at Tomari Port in Naha city in Okinawa contains the graves of (mostly American) foreigners who died in Okinawa, other than those killed in the Battle of Okinawa in 1945.
The Tomari International Cemetery in Naha in Okinawa also contains a stone memorial to commemorate the arrival of Commodore Perry in Okinawa in 1853 on his way to Japan and his arrival at Shimoda in Tokyo Bay.
The well-kept cemetery is free to enter to pay your respects. The Tomari International Cemetery was destroyed in the Battle of Okinawa in 1945 and re-established a decade later in 1955.
To access the cemetery take Highway 58 north from Naha towards Kadena. Turn left at the Tomari-Takahashi crossroads. The cemetery is on your right. Serving members of the US military have done much to keep this historic spot in good order.
