Orion is the signature beer of Okinawa and goes well with Okinawan food. The Orion brewery was set up in 1957 and its main beer Orion Draft Beer has an American-style mild taste with an alcohol content of 5%.
Orion also produces a number of happoshu brews including Southern Star as well as a zero alcohol variety. Orion is the 5th biggest brewery in Japan after the big four Japanese breweries: Kirin, Sapporo, Asahi and Suntory but has only a 1% share of the Japanese beer market, though this includes 50% of the Okinawan market.
Beer fans can visit the Orion beer factory (Orion Happy Park) near Nago castle ruins.
