大須漢音
The shopping arcades of the Osu Kannon area in downtown Nagoya, centered around Osu Kannon Temple are the city's equivalent of Tokyo's Akihabara and Osaka's DenDen Town - an electronics mecca attracting an increasingly international clientele to its myriad computer stores and maid cafes.
Osu Kannon has gradually become a new gourmet restaurant area to rival the longer established Sakae and Meieki (Nagoya Station) areas, as more upmarket establishments join the cheap, ethnic eateries that have always survived here.
Visitors can find authentic Brazilian food at the well-established Ossu Brasil, an award-winning Italian restaurant at Solo Pizza, a branch of Jerry's Uno serving Mexican tacos as well as Thai, Indian, Turkish (there are half a dozen kebab houses and Turkish ice-cream stores), Chinese and more home-grown Japanese restaurants.
Restaurants in Osu Kannon that might catch your eye as you stroll the shotengai include Italian food at Nude R (Tel: 052 221 6758) and Cesari, Thai curry from 500 yen at ホームマリ (Tel: 052 201 3755), Japanese seafood at Marukei (Tel: 052 251 8542), lots and lots of stuffed penguins, gourmet sandwiches and coffee at PG Cafe (Tel: 052 251 5533) and yakiniku (BBQ meat) at Shironikuya (Tel: 052 223 1919).
Access
Osu Kannon is easily reached from either Kamimaezu Station on the Tsurumai and Meijo subway lines or Osu Kannon Station on the Tsurumai Line.
